Rock Sellout Christmas Mix Cover Art

I met David Langley this fall when I went to St. Louis to see Big Star at the Taste of St. Louis Festival. It was one of those moments when I wished I had a few free-flowing Benjamins to drop on original artwork. Sadly, I didn’t and returned home with a signed print and his contact information. I contacted him immediately when I returned with hopes of somehow promoting his art for him.

I’m not sure when the concept of this Christmas Mix oozed out of my head, but everything fell together so effortlessly. I contacted David with hopes that he’d put together the cover art for it. What you see here are very lo-res images of the final product. Do yourself a favor and download the hi-res PDFs I uploaded below.

Rock Sellout Christmas: Aimee Mann & Michael Penn

Aimee Mann’s new Christmas album One More Drifter in the Snow is not the first appearance of “Christmastime”. It’s her latest release and the song is on it, so I might as well pimp it.

This has been my favorite Christmas song since I stumbled upon it. Not sure what it is exactly, but I listen to it repeatedly each and every year. Perhaps it’s the line,”tinsel will cover where the branches don’t grow” that brings a smile every year?! Maybe it’s the line,”look at your behavior, looking for a savior…underneath the misletoe”?! I just like this one, damnit!

Rock Sellout Christmas: Ron Sexsmith

Ron Sexsmith’s “Maybe This Christmas” can be found on many a Christmas CD. Maybe This Christmas would be one of them. Not sure where it appeared first, don’t care…it’s on our mix and that’s really all that matters, right?! RIGHT?!!

The snow’s coming down? Apparently, Ben Gibbard must be stuck somewhere in Colorado. The grass here in Green Bay is greener than it was mid-July. I’m not complaining, I’m just acknowledging what is true.

“The Christmas Song” can be found on the album Maybe This Christmas Tree. From the looks of it, this album must be a tad difficult to find these days…a used copy for $59.95? Ouch! That was a pretty decent little collection of holiday albums, pick them up if you see them laying around at a used CD store.

Rock Sellout Christmas: Sufjan Stevens

Since 2001 (with the exception of 2004), Sufjan Stevens has released a Christmas EP every holiday season. The songs were released mainly on his music label’s website and were shared throughout the blogoshpere. This season, you can purchase the entire in one tightly-knit package called Songs For Christmas

Rock Sellout Christmas: Redd Kross

I found conflicting information about the original release of “Super Sunny Christmas”. The earliest report claimed it was released in 1991 on Insipid Vinyl. The Redd Kross MySpace site says it released on Seminal Twang in 1992. In either case, it was originally released as a 7″ and is out of print.

I did find the song available for purchase on an extremely rare KROQ mix called Santa’s Got A GTO: Rodney On The ROQ’s Christmas
